Port Blair, Jan 21: A meeting of the women working in various establishments and who are members of unions affiliated to CITU was held at Shahed Bhavan, Port Blair on 20th January, 2024. Inaugurating the meeting, B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee briefly explained the issues faced by working women in the islands and the steps taken by the CITU to overcome it. He said that women workers are being discriminated in many sectors and asked the women members from the trade unions to voice against the policies which are anti-women in nature.  

Pandiyamma, Yesammal and Anbumalar from various unions addressed the meeting. They highlighted the problems faced by the working women in the islands and emphasized the need to strengthen the CITU. 

The meeting elected a 13-member State-level Working Women Coordination Committee under the CITU with Anbumalar as Convener.

CH Dhanlaxmi presided over the meeting. D. Ayyappan, Vice President, CITU State Committee also addressed the meeting. Earlier P. Sathyapal, Secretary, CITU State Committee welcomed the gathering.
