Port Blair, Feb 7: In view of the upcoming General Election to Lok Sabha 2024, the Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS, today held a meeting with Officers of Department of Telecommunication, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and SOVTECH for advance preparation of Webcasting in Critical Polling Station and also discussed on smooth functioning of Election Toll Free No.1950.

As per the Election Commission of India’s instructions arrangements for webcasting shall be done in all Critical Polling Stations and Polling Stations in vulnerable areas to provide immediate support, for ensuring free and fair election and as a confidence building measures to voters.

Further, the Election Commission of India has strengthened its Voter Helpline 1950 to make it easy for the voters to get authentic information pertaining to their voter registration. The range of services provided by the Helpline Number 1950 have been refurbished and made easily accessible. The enrolled electors in the Electoral Roll can check the details of their personal information, the Polling Station planned for them to visit on the Poll Day and to know the contact details of their Booth Level Officers by calling 1950 Helpline number.

The Chief Electoral Officer, A&N Islands has directed concerned Departments to strengthen the 1950 Toll Free Number and also directed to make advance preparation for webcasting in Critical Polling Station. He further directed concerned Departments to ensure mobile coverage at uncovered Polling Stations.

The Chief Electoral Officer exhorted all Departments to work in coordination to ensure smooth conduct of General Elections 2024.
