Patna, Feb 7: The 12th National School Chess Championship 2024 began this morning at Gyan Bhavan in Patna, Bihar. The championship is organized for school children in six different age groups: Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17.

Around 900 players from various schools across India are participating in the prestigious event, including 7 players from different schools of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, namely R. Kashthuri Bhai of GDMS in the girls under-17 category, Chittiboina Mageswari of GMSSS Port Blair and J Keerthana of VKV Lambaline in the girls under-15 category, while Krishnapriya B Rajesh of Sagritara and Disha Meenakshi of KV 1 are participating in the girls under-11 and under-9 categories respectively.

In the boys' category, D Shrestha Vijay of Carmel Sr. Sec School Port Blair and J S Virat of VKV Lambaline are participating in the under-17 and 11-year categories respectively.

The event will be held over 5 days and 9 rounds in the classical format from February 6-10, 2024. The total prize fund is ₹504000. The top three prizes in each category are ₹10000, ₹7000, and ₹6000 each respectively. As many as 14 different champions will be crowned on 10th Feb 2024.
