Port Blair, Feb 11: The State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) under the State Child Protection Society is promoting legal adoption and providing assistance to those seeking to adopt. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Social Welfare), emphasized on the importance of legal adoption and highlighted the procedures involve in the adoption process. He informed that adoption is a legal procedure that provides children with a permanent and loving family environment. It is essential to go through the proper channels and ensure that the adoption is conducted in a legal and ethical manner. SARA helps facilitate this process by providing support and guidance to prospective adoptive parents.

Shri G. Koteshwar Rao, Program Manager, SARA spoke on adoption and its significance in providing stable homes to children in need. He highlighted the following points which are to be adhered to as part of the adoption procedure.

Application and Registration: Prospective adoptive parents are required to fill out an application form and register with SARA.

Home Study: A thorough assessment of the prospective adoptive parent’s home environment and personal background is conducted to ensure their suitability for adoption.

Counseling and Training: SARA provides counseling and training sessions to prepare prospective adoptive parents for the responsibilities of raising an adopted child.

Matching and Placement: SARA works to match children available for adoption with suitable families and facilitates the placement process.

Legal Formalities: The final step involves completing the legal formalities and obtaining the necessary court orders for the adoption to be legally recognized.
