Minicoy, Feb 12: The Regional Station, Minicoy of ICAR-CIARI Port Blair conducted a “Scientist–Fisher Interaction Meet on Fish Aggregating Device for the welfare of fisher of Lakshadweep on 10/02/2024. About 24 tribal fishers from the coastal villages of Minicoy participated and interacted with scientists of Regional Station.

Dr. Gladston Y, Scientist in-charge, Regional Station, Minicoy informed that ICAR-CIARI, RS along with Fisheries Department, UTLA is striving for improving the livelihood opportunities of the resource poor tribal fishers through fish aggregating device technologies and market potential of tuna resources. He further stated that tribal communities need to be facilitated by concerned departments for the continued adoption of technological practices for getting sustainable income.

Dr. Ajina S.M, Scientist, Fisheries Resource management, described in detailed about the fish aggregating device and its advantages. The meeting was coordinated by Dr. Gladston Y, & Dr. Ajina S.M, Convener, Coordinator Shri Shareefuddeen Hassan& Shri Arif M.I. Dr.S.K.  Zamir Ahmed, Nodal Officer, Lakshadweep coordinated the overall conduct of programme under the Chairmanship of Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
