Car Nicobar, Feb 13: Sports Authority of India, STC Car Nicobar under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has commenced its residential programme from 1st February, 2024 at Modern Sports Complex, Lapathy.  In the coming weeks of February, selection trials will be conducted at Chowra Island. The SAI STC Car Nicobar has three residential disciplines viz. Cycling, Weightlifting & Athletics. Under this flagship STC scheme, the selected trainees can avail free lodging & boarding facilities, sports kits, sports equipment, expenses covering competition exposure, education and miscellaneous.

Presently, the first batch comprising of 23 trainees have joined SAI, STC Scheme and will be availing a holistic sports ecosystem for 360-degree development through world class coaching by expert coaches, availing national-level training infrastructure, individualized sports diet, and high-quality lodging facilities.

The coaches posted at SAI, STC Car Nicobar have produced many international sportspersons and also received many awards for their coaching. Shri V.B. Sutar, Cycling coach received Best Coach award in Trivandrum in the year 2020 while Shri C. Rajan, Weightlifting Coach received the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Best Coach award in the year 2018.

The Assistant Director, SAI I/c of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has expressed gratitude to the District administration, Nicobar District, Tribal Council, NGSA and the School administration for their support which fructified the selection trials conducted over a span of many weeks.
