Port Blair, Feb 15: INS Jarawa celebrated its Diamond Jubilee (60th Anniversary) on 15 Feb 2024 at Jarawa High Ground. R Adm Sandeep S Sandhu, NM, Chief of Staff (COS), HQ ANC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the event.

INS Jarawa was commissioned by the then Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral B S Soman on 15 Feb 1964 as a base to oversee all Naval Operations on the A&N Islands. INS Jarawa, upon commissioning established itself as a premier Naval establishment at Port Blair. The base is named after the indigenous adivasi Jarawa tribe of the Andaman Islands.

To highlight the spirit of Islands, the crest of INS Jarawa consists of a spear which is held against two of well-known land marks in Andaman Islands namely Rutland Island to the left and Saddle Hill to the right. INS Jarawa now acts as the Base Depot Ship for 24 additional units including Headquarters, Andaman and Nicobar Command and Headquarters, Naval Component.

The event was a grand success, and was attended by over 300 service personnel, Defence Civilians and Veterans to commemorate the 60 years of glorious service of the INS Jarawa to the Nation and ANC.
