Rangat, Feb. 27: Keeping its commitment of extension of various Social Security Assistances to all eligible beneficiary workmen, Andaman & Nicobar Islands Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (ANBOCWWB) organized an ‘Awareness-cum-Interaction Session’ followed by ‘Spot Registration Camp’ for the benefit of Building and Other Construction Workers of Middle Andaman at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat today. Altogether 300 construction workers attended the programme.

Dr. Anil Agarwal, Secretary (Labour & Employment), A&N Administration & Chairman of ANIBOCW Welfare Board was the chief guest of the programme. Ms Sita Majhi, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Rangat and Shri Abdul Qayum, Divisional Forest Officer, Middle Andaman, Shri Rahul Nair, IPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Rangat, Shri. K.Srinivasa Rao, Labour Commissioner and Director of Employment & Training, Smt. Sapna Priya, Assistant Commissioner, Rangat and other distinguished guests also graced the occasion.

The chief guest while addressing the gathering mentioned that the A&N Administration has constituted the ANIBOCW Welfare Board as per the provisions of the Building and Other Construction Workers (RE&CS) Act 1996  to provide various benefits to the registered workers such as Children Education Assistance, Medical Assistance, Marriage Assistance, Maternity Assistance, Pension Benefits, Disability Assistance, Death Assistance, Funeral Assistance & Skill Development Assistance in the UT of A&N Islands and as per the provisions, any worker aged between eighteen and sixty years, engaged in building or construction activities for a minimum period of ninety days in the preceding twelve months, is eligible for registration as a beneficiary with the ANIBOCW Welfare Board.

Further, the Secretary (L&E) elaborated that an amount of Rs. 32.58 Crore has been disbursed by the ANIBOCW Welfare Board to the eligible beneficiary workmen through various social security schemes, till date. Out of which, an amount of Rs. 17.57 Crore has been disbursed to the beneficiary workmen of the N&M Andaman District through DBT mode. The chief guest also appealed all the eligible building and other construction workers to get themselves registered with ANIBOCW Welfare Board and avail the benefits of various social security assistances being offered by the ANIBOCW Welfare Board in this UT. The Chairperson of the Board also responded to various queries raised by the construction workers on the spot favourably.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Suranjan Mukhopadhay, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Rangat, N&M Andaman District.
