Port Blair, Feb 27: The Grand Inauguration of the DGP Cup 2024 Season-II T-20 League-cum-Knockout Cricket Tournament organized by the Andaman & Nicobar Police was a resounding success, marked by grandeur and enthusiasm. Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS, DGP of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, graced the occasion as the chief guest, adding prestige to the event with his presence.

Amidst the cheers of cricket enthusiasts gathered at Netaji Stadium, the tournament commenced with a spectacular opening ceremony. Cultural performances set the stage for the unveiling of the coveted trophy by the esteemed Chief Guest, signalling the beginning of an exciting cricketing journey. With 43 teams competing for glory, the competition promises to be intense and captivating.

The vibrant atmosphere at the stadium, filled with large number of spectators, players, and dignitaries, epitomized the deep-rooted passion for cricket within the A&N Islands. As the tournament progresses, it is poised to foster a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the participating teams, uniting them in the love for the game.

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP, A&N Islands emphasized that participating in sports not only keep the youths of the island healthy and stress free but also give them opportunity to grow their career in sports. It is further expressed that the A&N Police is promoting all the sports and games in the right earnest way for the benefit of youths of the Island to live a healthy life in the society.

Subsequently, in a thrilling inaugural match, Team “Jai Hind” showcased their prowess by defeating Team “Coral Safari” with 8 wickets in hand and 4.1 overs to spare, setting the stage for an exhilarating tournament ahead.
