Port Blair, Feb. 28: It has come to the notice of the Electoral Registration Officer, A&N Parliamentary Constituency that a large number of applications have been submitted in Form ‘7’ for deletion of voter’s name from the Electoral Roll. Upon field verification of the applications, it was observed that several applications were made through false and bogus numbers. The applications could not be ascertained as bonafide. A serious view in the matter has been taken and a complaint has been filed to the SHO concerned to investigate the matter.

Further, the Election Department has a well-defined procedure for disposal of such cases and it is being followed in letter and spirit. The list of all such claims and objections received are being uploaded on the CEO’s Portal on daily basis and also being shared with the recognized parties for greater transparency. All the voters whose names have been proposed for deletion are notified individually through format “B” notice by registered post for their information and objection, if any. General public and political parties are advised to stay vigilant and updated with the information of Electoral Roll through the CEO’s Portal- https://www.ceoandaman.nic.in.

The applications received in Form ‘7’ online/ physically are marked to the respective BLO for conducting field inquiry for verification of genuineness of the claims/ objections and submission of report. Based on the enquiry report of the BLO and the evidences submitted with the report, required action is taken by the competent authority.

Further, the citizens are advised to remain vigilant and also report about persons filing Form ‘7’ with malafide intentions to Electoral Registration Officer, ANIPC, Port Blair. It is pertinent to mention that any false declaration is punishable under Section 31 of Representative of People Act 1950.
