Port Blair, Feb 28: On 28.02.2024, the Andaman & Nicobar Police took a significant step towards strengthening cyber awareness and accessibility to law enforcement services by launching two ground-breaking initiatives: "Cyber Suraksha Sankalp Mission" and "Case Information SMS Service".

To commence the event, Sh. Sanjay Kumar Tyagi, IPS, DIGP (Intl.), A&N Islands, extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants. He delivered a keynote address emphasizing the importance of cyber security and the initiatives being undertaken for the benefit of citizens in the A&N Islands. During the event, Sh. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands, alongside Sh. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, DGP, A&N Islands, and senior officers from A&N Administration, Andaman Nicobar Command, and Police, graced the occasion at Tagore Auditorium, Middle Point, Port Blair. Further during this event the Case Information SMS Service as well as the Cyber Suraksha Sankalp Mission was launched by Sh. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Islands.

As part of the Cyber Sankalp Mission, cyber awareness story booklets focusing on various cybercrimes, their modus operandi, and preventive measures along with anecdotal stories were released. Additionally, a film directed by Padmasree Awardee, Shri. Naresh Chander Lal, was screened, illustrating different methods employed by fraudsters in cybercrime.

The newly introduced Case Information SMS Service is designed to provide citizens with timely updates and acknowledgments throughout various stages of criminal investigations. This service will assist individuals upon the registration of FIRs, assignment of Investigating Officers, and submission of chargesheets/final reports as per the mandate of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023. Citizens will receive instant acknowledgment upon FIR registration and updates on the assignment of investigating officers and submission of chargesheets/final reports through this SMS service.

During his address, Shri. Devesh Chandra Srivastava, DGP, A&N Islands, expressed his enthusiasm for the launch, stating, "The Cyber Sankalp Mission and Case Information SMS Service”, which exemplifies the digital policing vision of Hon’ble PM Shri. Narendra Modi, emphasizing our commitment to leveraging technology for the betterment of society." The DGP also commended the efforts of the Cyber Crime Police Station and CCTNS cell staff for their recent achievements specially the 1st rank among UTs achieved by Andaman and Nicobar in implementation of CCTNS.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of the DGP and his team for modernizing the police force in a short span of time. He shared his personal experience with cybercrime, emphasizing the importance of cyber security and the role of students in promoting cyber awareness among their peers and family members.

The event concluded with a dynamic performance by the Police entertainment team, presenting skits on cybercrime and patriotic performances.

In conclusion, a vote of thanks was conveyed by Shri. Rajeev Ranjan, IPS (SP CID), urging the public to utilize the cyber helpline effectively.
