Port Blair, Feb. 29: A two days’ training on Navjaat Sishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) was organized for the Nursing Officers (1st batch) on Feb. 27 & 28 in the Conference Hall, AYUSH Hospital, Port Blair. NSSK is a program aimed to train health personnel in basic newborn care and resuscitation. It has been launched to address care at birth of children i.e., prevention of hypothermia, prevention of infection, early initiation of breastfeeding and basic newborn resuscitation. Newborn care and resuscitation is an important starting point for any neonatal programme.

The program was conducted in the presence of Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services and Dr. Avijit Roy, Joint Secretary (RCH-II).

Dr. Shiny Verghese, Principal, Nursing School and Dr. Kumar Gaurav, GDMO (Paediatrics) were the resource persons for the training. Altogether 32 Nursing Officers from various health institutions were trained.
