Port Blair, Feb. 29: A Booth Level Awareness Programme was organized by the Chief Electoral Officer, A & N Islands in collaboration with NYKS, Port Blair and Booth Level Officer in Part No. 171(2-3) of Ward No. 2 in the Auditorium of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Haddo, Port Blair under the supervision of Shri Arjun Sharma, DC, South Andaman with the assistance of Shri Thomas Vergese, AERO, Port Blair.

The AERO in his address stated that electoral registration is not only limited to bureaucratic works but also a shared responsibility of the civil society. Shri Gopal Ch. Biswas (APA, NYKS) spoke about the importance of a single vote in a democratic system and encouraged the people to register their names in the voter list. Shri Sukranjan Biswas, Computer Assistant Gr. B (IT), highlighted that accessibility should be a cornerstone of technological advancements in elections. Efforts must be made to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all citizens, regardless of their socio-economic status or physical abilities can participate in the electoral process. The Booth Level Volunteers shared their field experience during the voter registration drive and electoral awareness. Miss Pooja Halder, a student of Andaman Law College emphasized on the importance of participation of first time voters in election process.  Shri Venkatesh Kumar Singh, an independent researcher from Port Blair highlighted the importance of Election Commission of India in upholding the democracy in the country. Dr. Anupama Pandey, Lecturer, JNRM emphasized about the introduction of Right to Recall System for holding the representatives accountable to people.
