Port Blair, Feb 29: Port Blair City Area Committee of CPI (M) has conducted corner meetings at various parts of the Port Blair town on 27th, 28th and 29th February, 2024 on the issues of (1) intermittent power cut (2) deplorable condition of urban roads (3) price rise, (4) On failure of Smart City Projects, etc.

Addressing the corner meeting at Haddo junction today (29th February, 2024), D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) Andaman & Nicobar State Organising Committee said that the problems faced by the islanders are not being solved under the BJP government. He expressed concern over the increasing unemployment in the islands and the failure of the successive central government and MPs who represented the islands in Parliament, to create jobs for the local youth. He said that the central government and its Administration in the islands have failed to resolve the   drinking water and electricity crises in the islands despite making hollow promises by the Prime Minister during his visit to these islands in December, 2018.   He said that during the last ten years, corruption has increased in the islands and there is no control over the corrupt leaders and officers in the islands. 

Speaking at the corner meetings, D. Laxman Rao, State Secretariat Member of the CPI (M) said that the roads in the Port Blair town are in a pathetic condition and the BJP-controlled Port Blair Municipal Council and its Administration failed to repair these roads.   

While speaking at the corner meetings, SP Kalairajan, State Organising Committee Member of the Party criticized the BJP government at the centre and its Administration in the islands for denying 1/30th of pay plus DA to more than one thousand daily rated mazdoors of Forest Department.   

NKP Nair and KG Samkutty, CPI (M) Port Blair City Area Committee Members while addressing the corner meetings at various places criticized the central government for pursuing various anti-working class policies in the country.
