Port Blair, Mar. 1: The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, as the chief guest today laid the foundation stone for a Multipurpose/Assembly Hall at Vivekananda Kendra Zilla Parishad Vidyalaya at Port Mout to be constructed by Zilla Parishad South Andaman. The stone laying function was graced by the Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Up-Adhyaksh, Shri Boominathan, CEO, ZPSA, Ms. Smitha R, IAS, PRI members and staff & students of the school.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary congratulated the ZPSA for their effort in upgrading infrastructures in VKZPV which will benefit the students. He said that schools in A&N Islands should focus more on providing quality education to the students. The development of infrastructure in schools will continue as per their requirements, he said adding that ‘We should concentrate on how a student can excel and do well in his life and we all have to work in this direction and have to take responsibilities’.

The Chief Secretary appreciated the VKZPV Port Mout for providing quality education to the students and congratulated the teachers for their hard work. Each and every student should be guided and moulded in such a way that they become a better citizen in the society and contribute towards nation building, the Chief Secretary said adding that teachers should prepare the students to compete in national level competitive exams when they pass out Class XII.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS congratulated the School for securing 100 percent results which, he said, speaks about the quality of education being imparted to the students. He said, the Chief Secretary always insists for developing effective infrastructures which can be utilized in promoting end goals i.e learning and talent development amongst students. The laying of foundation Stone for this all important project will go a long way in realizing the vision of the Chief Secretary, he added.

In his address, the Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the foundation Stone laying of the project and its completion will fulfill the genuine demand of the school authorities for a multipurpose hall. He said, with the active support of Chief Secretary and A&N Administration, the ZPSA has been able to take up various developmental activities. He appreciated the quality of education of the school and informed that the tender for the construction of the hall has been floated.

In her address, the CEO, ZPSA, Ms. Smitha R, IAS said that ZPSA has made all-out effort to upgrade the standard of VKZPV of Port Mout and provided facilities such as Smart Classroom, CCTV cameras, PA system, water purifier etc.

Welcoming the chief guest and others present on the occasion, the Principal, Shri Raj Kumar said, the school from its humble beginning in Sept. 2003 with 50 students in KG-I-II and Class-1 has now being upgraded upto Class 12th.

The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Up-Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri. S. Boominathan.

The Assembly Hall would be built at a cost of about Rs. 1.45 Crore in the ground floor of the proposed three storied structure with a capacity to accommodate about 800 students and will be completed in 12 months of award of work.
