Port Blair, Mar. 7: As part of the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections-2024, a training programme for the Model Code of Conduct & Election Expenditure Monitoring team comprising of Flying Squad, Static Surveillance, Video Surveilance and Video Viewing teams was held in the conference hall of DBRAIT today.

Initiating the training, the SDM/Nodal Officer (MCC), Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS gave an overview of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the role of the teams formed viz. Flying Squad, Static Surveillance, Video Surveillance and Video Viewing to check the MCC violations as soon as it comes into effect. Reminding that MCC violations are taken very seriously, he urged the participants of the training to go through the MCC manuals for better understanding of their roles and responsibility to have a better check on the MCC violations.

Shri Som Naidu, Ex. DANICS through a power point presentation said that the MCC is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission to regulate political parties and candidates prior to elections, to ensure free and fair elections. The MCC is operational from the date that the election schedule is announced till the date that results are announced. He also enlightened the participants on how to check the MCC violations.

Shri M. Mohd. Ashraf, Nodal Officer Training on Election Expenditure Monitoring briefed the participants about the machinery which shall be deployed for monitoring the election Expenditure of the contesting candidate. Election Commission of India has prescribed a maximum limit of Rs. 75 lakh for each candidate under Rule 90 of Conduct of Election Rules 1961 beyond which the expenditure will be treated as corrupt practice, he said.

Shri Amar Kumar Singh informed the participants about Election Seizure Management System (ESMS), C-vigil app through video files and Power Point Presentation.
