Port Blair, Mar. 8: As part of the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activity, a voter awareness programme was organized by the SVEEP team in the auditorium of TGCE here today. The event also the marked the International Women’s Day celebrations in which working women from different departments, public & private sector participated. The ADM/District Nodal Officer (EEM) as the chief guest joined in the cake cutting ceremony along with womenfolk to celebrate the ‘International Women’s Day’.       Addressing the gathering, especially womenfolk present in good numbers, the ADM greeted all the womenfolk on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’. She said, this day acknowledges the contribution of women in every sphere of life.

Men should be the main supporters in women empowerment, she said adding that men should be there supporting and standing with women in every single step on the way.  Referring to the ensuing Lok Sabha Election-2024, the ADM said, the election machinery is encouraging eligible voters through SVEEP activities to exercise their franchise during the forthcoming election-2024 to celebrate the right to vote.

In his address on the occasion, the Nodal Officer, MCC, Shri Vinayak Chamadia congratulated the womenfolk on the occasion of ‘International Women’s Day’ and appreciated the commendable role played by the women in discharging their duties in work place as well as looking after their families. While informing that 50 percent voters are women in India, he urged the womenfolks to encourage eligible voters to participate in the election process and vote for a healthy democracy. 

In her address, Smt. Kalpana Singh, PGT enlightened the gathering on the significance of the day, about the importance of education in empowerment of women and the contribution made by women in the development of the society.

In his welcome address, Shri Wairokpam Punshiba Singh, IAS, Nodal Officer for SVEEP informed the gathering about the SVEEP activities underway as part of the ensuing General Election-2024 to create maximum awareness among the people to participate in the electoral process.
