Port Blair, Mar. 11: In a momentous occasion graced by distinguished guests, the Tribal Development Council Maritime Training Institute under skill development was inaugurated today at RGT Road by the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS as the chief guest.

The Chief Secretary commended the initiative undertaken by the Tribal Development Council, highlighting its profound impact on tribal youths and the broader community. He emphasized the importance of equipping the younger generation with skills that align with the evolving needs of the maritime industry.

The Chief Secretary said, “The launch of the Maritime Training Institute reflects our commitment to fostering inclusive growth and empowering marginalized communities”. "By providing access to high-quality training and career opportunities in the maritime sector, we are not only enriching individual lives but also contributing to the socio-economic development of the region", he said.

The Chief Secretary pledged the continued support of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Administration towards initiatives aimed at uplifting tribal communities and promoting sustainable development.

Under the leadership of Shri Rasheed Yusuf, the Chairman of the Maritime Training Institute, the institute is poised to become a beacon of excellence in maritime education and training. With a comprehensive curriculum and state-of-the-art facilities, the institute is well-positioned to nurture a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of the maritime industry. The Principal of the Institute is Shri Amaan Pasha was also present on the occasion.

The inaugural function was also attended by Harbour Master, Capt. Pramod Kumar, Tribal leaders, Tribal Council of Nicobar group and representatives from the maritime sector.
