Port Blair, March 14: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has brought attention to the pressing issue of dangerous trees posing a threat to public safety across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Expressing grave concern over the potential risks posed by these trees, particularly in densely populated areas and along busy roads, the Member of Parliament wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration highlighting the looming fear among the local population. With the onset of adverse weather conditions, such as cyclones or heavy winds, there is a heightened risk of these trees or their branches falling onto roads, houses, or pedestrians, potentially leading to fatal accidents.

He emphasized that past incidents have tragically demonstrated the severity of the issue, resulting in loss of lives within the community. He further noted the widespread concern among Islanders regarding the lack of proper channels to address these safety concerns. Many residents are unaware of whom to approach for assistance in mitigating the risks posed by these hazardous trees.

In response to these concerns, the Member of Parliament has called upon the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to take immediate action. Keeping the approaching Monsoon season in mind, he has urged the establishment of a dedicated helpline number specifically for reporting dangerous trees in the locality. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of widely publicizing this helpline number to ensure easy accessibility for concerned individuals seeking assistance.
