Port Blair, March 17: The 1st ANCA Chess Tournament for Rated players was conducted by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association on 17.03.2024 at ANCA Chess Centre, Dairy Farm. The tournament was organised exclusively for the FIDE Rated Players who have an international rating.
The Honourable Justice Kausik Chanda of the Calcutta High Court was the chief guest of the event and made the ceremonial first move against P Tata Rao, the top seed of the tournament at the first board to inaugurate the tournament in the presence of the office bearers of ANCA.
A total of 17 FIDE rated players participated in the tournament, which was played in rapid chess format over five rounds, from which R Kashthuri Bhai emerged as the winner with 4.5 points from five rounds. J S Virat secured second place with four points, while D Shrestha Vijay and Kirit Bikram Chanda finished third and fourth respectively with 3.5 points each from five rounds.
The winners were awarded with trophies by the chief guest, the Honourable Justice Kausik Chanda of the Calcutta High Court who was also the sponsor of the event.
