Port Blair, March 21: The Chief Electoral Officer, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri B. S Jaglan, IAS, today held a meeting with Officers of the A & N Administration on the basic aspects of ‘Model Code of Conduct’ in the Conference Hall of Secretariat. The meeting was attended by Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, Returning Officer, A&N Islands Parliamentary Constituency and other senior Officers of the Administration.

The Nodal Officer, (Model Code of Conduct), Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS made a presentation and briefed about the Do’s and Don’ts during the enforcement of the MCC and its effective implementation and vigilant monitoring measures expected by the Government agencies.

The Chief Electoral Officer briefed that the primary objective of the MCC is to ensure that campaigns, polling, and counting process during elections are held in an orderly, transparent, and peaceful manner. Additionally, it serves as a mechanism to curb any misuse of state machinery and financial resources by the ruling party. The utilization of official machinery or personnel for electioneering, issuance of advertisements at the cost of the public exchequer in newspapers and other media during the election period are strictly prohibited.

The misuse of official mass media for partisan coverage of political news and publicity regarding achievements to favor the ruling party should be strictly avoided, as noted in the MCC guidelines.
