As we commemorate the 61st National Maritime Day on 05.04.2024, I extend my warmest greetings to all stakeholders in the maritime community. This year, we are celebrating this auspicious occasion under the theme "Sustainable Shipping: Challenges and Opportunities."

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are blessed with rich maritime resources, and our connectivity through the seas is fundamental to our identity and prosperity. However, with this privilege, comes the responsibility to ensure the sustainability of our maritime activities.

The theme "Sustainable Shipping: Challenges and Opportunities" serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need to address environmental concerns and embrace innovative solutions within the maritime industry. It calls upon us to confront the challenges posed by climate change, pollution, and overexploitation of marine resources, while also recognizing the immense opportunities for growth and development through sustainable practices.

I call upon all stakeholders, i.e. Government agencies, industry leaders, maritime professionals, and environmental advocates to work collaboratively towards building a more sustainable maritime sector. Let us harness the power of innovation, technology, and responsible stewardship to ensure the long-term health and resilience of our oceans.

On this National Maritime Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to sustainable shipping and strive to leave a positive legacy for future generations.
