Car Nicobar, April 12: The General Observer for ANI Parliamentary Constituency, Shri Brajesh Narain Singh, IAS unveiled ‘MEGHA’ the Election Mascot of Lok Sabha Election 2024 as part of SVEEP activities in Nicobar District yesterday at Edward Kuchat Park, Car Nicobar in the presence of Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, District Election Officer, Nicobars District/(DC Nicobars) and Shri Piyush Singh (AC (HQ)) and other officers. The mascot ‘MEGHA’ is a Nicobar Megapode Bird, which is a very famous unique bird of Nicobars District. Like other megapode relatives, it builds a large mound nest with soil and vegetation and hatches its eggs with the heat produced by decomposition.

The chief guest of the programme, Shri Brajesh Narain Singh, IAS also interacted with first time voter and took selfies with them at the ‘MEGHA’ Selfie Point. In his address, the Observer highlighted on the Indian Democracy and importance of voting for the development of the Nation and also requested to encourage the local tribes for maximum participation in the forthcoming General Election-2024.

The Deputy Commissioner (N), Ms. Jyoti Kumari while addressing the gathering, requested them to come forward and take part in the upcoming General Election-2024. She said that the District mascot ‘MEGHA’ will reach every corner of the Island and it surely increase the voting percentage from 90% to 100% this time in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Election in Nicobars District. During the programme, mascot pamphlets were also distributed to the local public and Tribal leaders.

The District Administration Nicobars selected the bird as a mascot to create wide publicity among the local public under SVEEP activities and also to encourage eligible voters to come forward to cast their votes to achieve the target of 100 percent in Nicobars District.

Apart from this, the District Administration also organized a prize distribution ceremony at Priyadarshini Hall for the winners of various types of activities, cultural programme, sports organized under the SVEEP activities to promote and educate the locals. The General Observer, Shri Brajesh Narain Singh who was the chief guest of the programme requested the youth to educate the local community for more participation in Indian Democracy.

Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Nicobar) was also present in the programme and distributed prizes to the winners. She informed that the District Administration Nicobar is continuously conducting different types of programmes in all Sub Divisions under SVEEP activity.
