Port Blair, April 21: Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), has initiated state of art surgical procedures in Skin Department of GBPH recently. This cutting-edge facility is set to revolutionize dermatological care in the region, providing advanced surgical solutions for a wide range of skin conditions.

The introduction of the Dermatology Surgery (Room No 42) is a significant milestone for GB Pant Hospital, as it underscores the commitment of institution to deliver high quality comprehensive healthcare services to the community. With the increasing requirements of treatment for various skin problems, there is a demand for specialized treatment; and the establishment of this unit intends to fill this crucial gap for the patients coming to GBPH for treatment of non-cancerous growth in skin, nail surgeries, removal of scars and other cosmetic procedures.

Dr Arisha Salem, one of the doctors in the Department of Dermatology in GBPH has been specially trained from Mumbai for carrying out these procedures here for the benefit of the islanders. The doctor has been trained to handle dermatology surgical procedures including removal of benign and malignant skin growths, such as moles, warts, sebaceous cysts, dermoid cysts and several benign tumours. Other cosmetic procedures initiated include those aimed at enhancing the appearance of the skin, including scar revision and removal, skin grafting, ear lobe repair, nose piercing closure, chemical peels for acne and skin discoloration.

Latest modalities like hair transplant surgery for restoration of hair growth for patients experiencing hair loss and baldness and fat transfer and biofillers will be started soon. The introduction of these services in Port Blair will improve access of the islanders towards specialized care along with the need for patients to travel long distances for treatment. The doctor trained from centre of excellence in Mumbai hospital aims to enhance patient convenience and satisfaction along with timely and effective management of skin disorders.

This will also train the new budding doctors in ANIIMS in latest world class procedures providing better learning and research opportunities.
