Port Blair, May 2: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Minister of Law and Justice (IC), Government of India to allocate Seats in Premier Government Law Colleges for Students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Hon’ble Minister of Law and Justice (IC), Government of India the Member of Parliament said that he is deeply concerned about the lack of postgraduate opportunities in law in our Islands. While Andaman Law College has been instrumental in providing undergraduate legal education, there is a notable absence of postgraduate programs, specifically a Master of Laws (LLM) course.

He mentioned that every year, about 40 to 50 bright and talented students graduate from Andaman Law College, equipped with a solid foundation in law.  The absence of an LLM course in A & N Islands significantly hampers the academic and professional aspirations of our students.

The Member of Parliament added that many aspiring law students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands face many challenges in pursuing postgraduate studies in mainland India. The financial constraints associated with studying in private colleges on the mainland make it an unattainable dream for many.

In this regard, the Member of Parliament urged the Hon’ble Minister of Law and Justice (IC), Government of India to consider allocating atleast two seats in premier government law colleges across mainland India for students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

He added that by providing our students with access to esteemed government law colleges, we can bridge the gap in post graduate opportunities and empower our youths to realize their academic and professional potential. This step would not only enhance the educational landscape of our islands but also contribute to the overall development of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
