Commissioning of EVMs & VVPATs Completed

Port Blair, April 7: The Chief Electoral Officer, Shri B S Jaglan, IAS along with Returning Officer, ANIPC, Shri Arjun Sharma, IAS, today visited EVM & VVPATs warehouse situated near ITF Ground to review the ongoing work of Commissioning of EVMs & VVPATs to be used for the polling on 19th April, 2024 (Poll day). The Commissioning of the EVMs & VVPATs is completed and the mock poll on randomly selected EVMs are being carried out in the Central Warehouse behind ITF Ground in the presence of representatives of contesting candidate and the whole process is videographed.

Port Blair, April 7: The First Seva Neketan Chess Tournament-2024 was organised by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association at Seva Niketan, Dairy Farm on April 7th, 2024, unfolding with fervor as around 40 players from various backgrounds converged to showcase their strategic prowess. The ceremonial first moves on the top board to kick start the even in moved by the Mr. Adwaita Chakraborhy, in-charge, Dairy Farm. The event witnessed a vibrant mix of talents, including students from the esteemed ANCA Chess Centre and passionate inmates from the Seva Neketan.

Car Nicobar, April 7: On 06/04/2024, in a targeted effort to curb illicit activities, excise raid was conducted by Police team of PS Car Nicobar consisting of SI J.R. Krishna, PC/730 Hiramani Minj, PC/1197 Manojit, CT/775 Finlayson, PC(D)/2737 Prakash Rao at Kakana Village, Car Nicobar.

During operation around 300 Ltrs of Lehan (fermented wash) was recovered which was destroyed on the spot. Moreover, during the course of the raid, Police team apprehended one Mr. Edmond, S/o Late Mr. Leo, 29 Yrs, R/o Kakana Village and 02 Ltrs of illicit liquor was recovered from his possession. He was arrested and a case under Excise Regulation was registered and is being investigated.

Port Blair, April 7: In a relentless campaign against bootlegging and the illicit liquor trade, the Central Crime Station police have intensified their crackdown keeping in view the upcoming elections in A&N Islands. In this direction, a strategic Jungle search operation was conducted on 07/04/24 in the Caddlegunj, Ograbraj area.

The dedicated team from PS Central Crime Station, comprising of HC/Baroi, PC/Srinivas, PC/Amose, and PC/Chandran under the supervision of SHO, PS CCS Inspr. Girish Kumar, meticulously executed the operation. Their search unearthed 14 concealed tins containing approximately 195 liters of fermented solution (Lehan), a vital ingredient in the production of illicit liquor. Swift action was taken to destroy the illicit substance, with thorough documentation through photography to prevent its misuse in preparation of illicit liquor.
