Port Blair, Oct. 2: It is a proud moment again for the Islanders as two more young chess players from A & N Islands viz. S M Dinesh Kumar and A Divesh, both class IX students VKV Lambaline Port Blair have achieved their international Chess Rating as per the latest International Rating list published on 30th September 2023 by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Port Blair, Oct. 2: The Andaman tourism industry made a big impression at the 38th Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) Convention. The event took place at ITC Hotel Rama International in Chatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) from September 29th to October 1st, 2023.

Key figures from Andaman's tourism sector attended the event, including Shri. M. Vinod, President of the Andaman Association of Tour Operators (AATO), Shri. Mohd. Jadwet, Chairman of the Andaman Chapter of IATO, Shri. Saikat Biswas, Joint Secretary of AATO, and Shri. T.J. Mathew, Assistant Manager, Department of IP&T, representing the Department of Tourism, A&N Administration. Their presence added valuable insights to the convention.

Port Blair, Oct. 2: To enhance Fire Safety and Response capabilities within the community, the A&N Fire Service has initiated a Scheme named ‘Fire Mitra’.

The scheme aims to harness the potential of community members in assisting the Fire Service of A&N Islands during Fire & Emergency situations.

By seeking the support of volunteers from amongst the Islanders, Fire Service aims to create a more resilient and responsive approach to firefighting and Disaster mitigation.

Port Blair, Oct. 2: On the 2nd of October 2023, a momentous programme was organized at the Congress Office (Gandhi Bhawan), Port Blair, marking the 154th Birth Anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, who continues to be an enduring symbol of non-violent resistance and freedom.

Port Blair, Oct. 1: In a prominent display of concern and determination, Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma conducted a one-day hunger strike today in Rangat. This powerful protest, which began amidst heavy rain, drew the support of thousands of Islanders, including ATR commuters, general public, Jeep Association, Auto Association, PRI members, elected representatives of PBMC and Zilla Parishad, Shopkeepers and media persons, who braved the inclement weather to join him.

Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, addressing the gathered crowd highlighted his longstanding efforts to address the deplorable state of National Highway 4 (NH4). He revealed that since 2021, he had tirelessly raised this issue with both the local administration and the relevant ministry, but the situation had shown no signs of improvement. Consequently, he decided to stage this hunger strike as a last resort, with a warning of more decisive actions in the future if needed.
