Port Blair, June 6: The scientific team of ICAR-CIARI Regional Station, Minicoy under the plan and guidance of Dr. E. B. Chakurkar, Director ICAR- CIARI, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organizedplantation drive on 05.06.2024. In connection with‘World Environment Day celebration 2024’. Theplanting drive was carried at ICAR-CIARI RS Minicoy Farm under the campaign slogan “Our land Our future”. Plantation was done with spices plants like Cinnamon (12 nos.), Black pepper (12 nos.) & Nut meg (5) under coconut plantation of 281 sq. area in the presence of villages Moopans of Minicoy.

Port Blair, June 6: All concerned candidates have been informed that the Principal, Farook College (Autonomous), Kozhikode affiliated to University of Calicut has informed that one seat each is reserved for the native students of the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands for admission to UG/PG programmes in Farook College.

The students seeking admission to UG/PG programmes in the college must have registered in the college portal via online registration for UG/PG, programmes for 2024-25. Online registration must have done in Farook College admission portal www.farookcollege.ac.in.

Port Blair, June 5: The valedictory function of World Environment Day celebration on the theme ‘Land Restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience’ under the slogan ‘Our Land.Our Future. #We are Generation Restoration’, organized by Zoological Survey of India  was held in the Seminar Hall of TGCE here this evening. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS was the chief guest on the occasion while the DGP, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, IPS was the guest of honour. The program was attended by students, parents and staff/officials of ZSI and TGCE.

Port Blair, June 6: The June 2024 Term end examinations of the Indira Gandhi National Open University for various academic programmes offered by the university are commencing from June 7 across the country. The examinations will conclude on July 15. The examinations of Andaman & Nicobar Islands will be conducted at JNRM College, Port Blair-0201, Govt. Model Sr. Secondary School, Hut Bay-0203, Office of the Education officer, Car Nicobar-0204, Office of the Asst. Education Officer, Kamorta, Nancowrie-0205, Coast Guard Public school, Campbell Bay-0206, M G Govt. College, Mayabunder-0208, and BVB Mondal Public school, Diglipur-0214.

Port Blair, June 5: The team of ophthalmic surgeons led by Dr. Anjali Koteshwar (Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology) from ANIIMS/GBPH have successfully accomplished remarkable and herculean task of operating upon almost 50 patients from Car Nicobar, hailing from 11 different villages. These patients were suffering from various eye conditions including cataract impairing their daily lives. Though most of the cases were challenging because of long standing illness and associated medical problems like raised blood pressure and sugar, the most arduous was to operate upon a 14-year-old child who had no vision in one eye since birth due to cataract. After a series of pre-operative tele-consultations from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Guru Nanak Eye Centre (GNEC), Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH), Delhi, the patient was operated in GBPH by the team of efficient doctors in ANIIMS. With utmost difficulty and after an intensive medical treatment of the child, the surgery was done in coordination with GNEC.
