Port Blair, Dec. 22: As the countdown for the much awaited Island Tourism Festival-2023 begins, hectic preparations are on at the ITF Ground, VIP Road to make the event a gala one. The Island Tourism Festival will be organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration from Dec. 27 to 31 to provide a common platform for all to participate with equal dedication and gaiety promoting and strengthening the spirit of brotherhood. Islanders as well as the tourists alike are waiting for the spectacular event to unfold on Dec.27. The festival projects the image of the Islands as eco-friendly tourist destination.

Port Blair, Dec. 22: In an innovative stride towards revitalizing urban spaces, the once open dump yard at Middle Point, marred by illegal activities and unsightly waste heaps, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a tranquil Relax Point at Middle Point.  Today marked the inauguration of this transformative initiative by Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, witnessing the evolution of an eyesore into a rejuvenating space for locals and visitors alike. Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Secretary, PBMC, Shri Abhishek Bhukal, Joint Secretary, PBMC, Shri Azizur Rehaman, Ward Councillor and other officials of the Council were present during the occasion.

Port Blair, Dec. 22: A delegation of Andaman & Nicobar Rajya Karmachari Maha Sangh (ANRKMS) alongwith representative of Nagarpalika Swatchtha Karmachari Sangh (NSKS) today met Shri. Venkatesan, Chairman, National Commission for Safai Karmachari (NCSK) and appraised the ground level working condition of Sanitary Worker pertaining to Port Blair Municipal Council.

Port Blair, Dec. 22: Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman/Secretary (RD) along with Shri Vinayak Chamadia, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, South Andaman and Shri Suvigya Chandra, IAS, Assistant Commissioner (UT) inspected the Wandoor, Gram Panchayat area covering the villages of Wandoor, Maymyo and Hasmatabad.

Directions were issued to the concerned officials present to examine the issues and compliance of the matter brought forward by the PRIs in accordance with the guidelines and feasibility of issues. The technical wing of APWD, PRIs, Tehsildar, Ferrargunj and field staff were present during inspection. The issues of development of rural roads at Hasmatabad, Maymyo, Lohabariack Beach area were brought up before the officers. The Secretary (RD) issued directions to EE, PRI to submit status report of PMGSY road at the earliest. 

Port Blair, Dec. 22: CPI (M) Port Blair Area Committee has conducted door-to-door campaign and corner meetings at Haddo Ward No. 2 on 21st December, 2023. 

Addressing a corner meeting at Lillypur, Haddo, on 21st December, 2023, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee criticized the central government for the growing unemployment in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.  He said that the Modi government has failed to create any new job for the youth of these islands during the last nearly ten years.  The BJP government has failed to solve various problems faced by the people of these islands like (i) deplorable condition of NH4, rural and urban roads, (ii) rising unemployment, (iii) frequent electricity cut, (iv) non-availability of sand, stone chips, metal (v) lack of teachers in the schools (vi) non-availability of specialist doctors and medicines throughout the islands, etc.
