Port Blair, Jan. 24: As part of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative and as per directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, the Foundation Day of Uttar Pradesh was celebrated enthusiastically today at Raj Niwas. Persons hailing from Uttar Pradesh participated in the function. During the event, an interaction and experience sharing session was also conducted.   A short documentary on Uttar Pradesh was screened. The function ended with high tea, group photograph and presentation of mementos to the invitees. 

Mayabunder, Jan. 24: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), N&MA under the visionary guidance of Shri Ankit Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman celebrated the ‘National Girl Child Day’ today. The day focuses on promoting girls’ right and opportunities, with an emphasis on education, skills and enabling them to reach their full potential.

The event, held at Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium, Rangat was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the chief guest, Smti Sapna Priya, Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, the guest of honor, Shri Rahul L Nair, IPS, SDPO of Rangat, and the special guest, Dr. Karishma Prasad, Medical Officer (Ayurveda) of CHC Rangat. The program was also attended by Dr. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Education Officer, Rangat and Smti Uma Devi, CDPO, ICDS Project, Rangat.

Port Blair, Jan 24: A Joint Working Group Meeting-cum-Workshop on HIV & AIDS (Prevention & Control) Act 2017, of Nodal Officers and Complaints Officers from various Departments was conducted at Tagore Govt. College of Education on 24.01.2024. The participants were nominated by the concerned Department. Thirty-Seven participants from 37 departments & Health Institutions and Educational Institutions attended the meeting-cum Workshop.

Port Blair, Jan. 24: To facilitate the commuters of Bambooflat and its adjoining areas, on the occasion of ‘Republic Day Celebration’ on 26th January, the Directorate of Shipping Services will be operating additional ferry services on 26.01.2024 between 0600 hrs and 1800 hrs. The commuters of the above areas can avail the above service.

Today, on January 25, 2024, we observe 14th National Voters' Day to encourage, facilitate and maximize the enrollment of new voters, thereby fortifying the democratic fabric of our nation. It is also focused on inspiring the youth to participate in the electoral process, upholding India's commitment to Universal Adult Franchise.

I call upon every single citizen of these Islands, who has attained the age of 18 years as on 1st January, 2024 to enroll themselves as a voter in the Electoral Roll. Any citizen attaining the age of 18 years by April 1, July 1 and October 1 of 2024 can also submit an advance application for registration as a voter. I also call upon them to exercise their right to vote in coming General Elections - 2024. It is a matter of pleasure that through consistent efforts, A&N Islands have achieved an electoral roll of 3,11,802 voters following the revision recently published on 5th January, out of which, 1,49,410 are women voters.
