Port Blair, Oct. 3: Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency led the Islanders in paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation - Mahatma Gandhi on his 154th  Birth Anniversary here yesterday.

The main function of the Gandhi Jayanti celebration was held at Gandhi Park wherein the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands as the chief guest paid floral tributes at the Statue of Mahatma Gandhi.  This was followed by offering of floral tributes by the Chief Secretary (I/C), A&N Administration, Shri Nikhil Kumar, IAS, Adhyaksh, Zilla Parishad (SA), Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Chairperson, PBMC, Smt. S. Selvi, senior Officers of A&N Administration, Councillors and others.

Port Blair, Oct. 3: With the call of Hon’ble, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for a one hour 'Shramdaan for swachhata' at 10 am on 1st Oct by all citizens, team Port Blair Guru Ki Rasoi (PBGKR) actively participated in the Swachhata Pakhwada - Cleanliness Drive organised by ANIIMS & GB Pant Hospital.

Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has deeply mourned the demise of Smti. K G Thankamma, age, 91 years, mother of V.A.S. Nair, resident of Bhatubasti.

He prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and for enough strength for the members of the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.

Port Blair, Oct. 3: As part of Swachhata Pakhwada – Swachhata Hi Seva, a Cleanliness Drive was conducted on 1st October 2023 at New Wandoor Beach on the eve of the Gandhi Jayanti. Signifying the National Event, District Child Protection Unit, South Andaman under District Administration participated in the Cleanliness Drive in Collaboration with the Gram Panchayat Wandoor with prodigious enthusiasm. Along with the Frontline Workers, Villagers of the community, Children from Love Children Home, a Child Care Institution also actively participated in the Drive.

Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands has deeply mourned the demise of Smti. U.V. Chandramathi, Wife of Late N. K. Viswanathan, (Retd.) Aged 81 yrs, who expired on 27/09/2023 at MIMS Hospital, Tellichery, Kannur, Kerala.
