Last evening I was at the club and saw a man at the next table who tried to avoid my eyes. I knew why. He’d been abandoned by his friends and others because of the way he had treated them while he had held a post.

Which reminded me that life is like a boomerang and I was caught up in memories of me as a kid playing for hours with a small wooden boomerang given to me as a gift.

You take this flat, curved piece of wood and throw it then watch in amazement as it curves around in the air and comes right back to you. As “miraculous” as that seemed when we were kids. I’ve found that most of our life is like that. Whatever we “throw” out there, comes back to us.

We live in a “boomerang” world. Let me explain: If you smile at someone, in almost every case, they will smile back. Try it now with someone nearby and see if it works. If you’re kind toward someone, they will usually be kind in return.

Of course, this also works in the other direction. If you complain to someone, they will “share” their complaints with you. In fact, you may quickly find yourself in a subtle competition to see who is more miserable!

A man and his son were walking in a forest, suddenly the boy trips and feeling a sharp pain he screams, “Ahhhh!” Surprised, he hears a voice coming from the mountain, “Ahhhh!”

Filled with curiosity, he screams: “Who are you?” But the only answer he receives is, “Who are you?”

This makes him angry, so he screams: “You are a coward!” and the voice answers, “You are a coward!” He looks at his father, asking, “Dad, what is going on?”

“Son,” the man replies, “Pay attention!” Then he screams, “I admire you!” The voice answers, “I admire you!” The father shouts again, “You are wonderful!”, and the voice answers: “You are wonderful!”

“That my son,” says the father “is an echo, but truly it is life itself! Life always gives you back what you give out. Life is like a boomerang. It sends back what you give out!”

If you want more love, give more love!

If you want more kindness, give more kindness!

If you want understanding and respect, give understanding and respect!

If you want people to be patient and respectful to you, give patience and respect!

Life always gives you back what you give out.

So, my dear friend, if you're reeling under fire from those around you, stop sending out fire yourself and you’ll find a change. Remember the boomerang and the echo: it could change your life..!
