Kolkata, Nov. 21: The delegation of media persons from A&N Islands on an exposure trip to mainland India today visited the office of ‘Eyi Samay’ a Bangla daily of the Times of India group in Kolkata. The team interacted with the News Bureau Chief of the daily Shri Amol Sarkar, who briefed about the establishment and setup of the organisation. Shri Sarkar said that the Bangla Daily ‘Eyi Samay’ was started recently in the month of October during Mahalaya. It has a circulation of above one lakh at present and is trying to cope up with the competitors in the market.

The team also interacted with the Sports Editor of the daily, Shri Rupayan Bhattacharya who discussed at length about sports activities and sportsmen in the islands. The Sports Editor remembered the ex international footballer from the Islands Shri Thomas Khushboo who represented the nation in the Junior International Football Championship in the late 1980s. He also recalled the contribution of Rejina Kiroh for her outstanding performance in Kayaking both at the National and International level.

Thereafter the touring media persons visited the office and printing press of ‘Ganashakti’, a Bengali daily which has been running since 1967. The team interacted with the Editor Shri Narayan Datta who has been associated with the newspaper since the time of its establishment. Later the Photo Journalist, Shri Amit Kar took the media around the editorial room, DTP & Processing unit concluding with the printing press of the daily.

The team also got an opportunity to visit the office of ‘Central Bureau of Film Certification’, Kolkata and were apprised of the process of film certification.

The media team is scheduled to visit the Science City, Kolkata and other relevant offices tomorrow. The overall tour in Kolkata has been facilitated by the Addl. Director General, Press Information Bureau, Kolkata upon the request made to the Press Information Bureau, Port Blair by the Directorate of Information Publicity & Tourism, A&?N Administration.
