Port Blair, Aug. 6: The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Communication and Information Technology, Govt. of India has considered the request of A&N Administration and relaxation has been granted for the academic year 2012-2013 as a special case. A letter from the Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Kapil Sibal granting the relaxation has been received by Hon’ble Lt Governor.

It may be recalled that the Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM on June 29, 2012 had written to the Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Shri Kapil Sibal requesting to grant relaxation from the enforcement of the cut-off marks of AIEEE in the allotment of non-NIT i.e. the seats in Degree level Engineering/Technology/Agriculture Courses for the students of these Islands. The Lt Governor further stated that if the cut-off marks are enforced as per the directions of the Ministry of HRD, some seats allotted to the UT would remain vacant due to lack of eligible students of the A&N Islands, despite their being academically meritorious within the Islands.
