Punjab soccer team lifts the prestigious championship trophy

                 

Port Blair, Jan. 3: The prestigious 58th SGFI National Football Championship-2012-13 for U-19 years Boys, organized by the Directorate of Education, A&N Administration from 26th December 2012, at Netaji Stadium concluded today with the Lt Governor, Lt Gen (Retd.) Bhopinder Singh, PVSM, AVSM declaring the championship closed. He also gave away trophies and certificates to the winners of the championship and other participants in presence of the First Lady of these Islands, Smt Bhawanee Singh. In an exciting final match played between Punjab and Odisha teams, Punjab U-19 school football team lifted the prestigious Championship trophy by defeating Odisha football team in a tie breaker.

Speaking on the occasion, the Lt. Governor extended New Year good wishes to all the participants of the tournament. He stated that football is the most popular sports in our Islands and our football team have won several championships at the National level. The Islands had produced many national level footballers and a good number of footballers have even represented our country in various football championships at International level. He had special words of appreciation for Kumari Deborah and Kumari Martha for winning gold medals in Girls Cycling championship at New Delhi. The Lt Governor appreciated the Islands school team for winning the best marching contingent award, well disciplined team award, fair play award and certificate of ‘Admiration’ for best organization award continuously for the last two years. He called upon the participants to take home sweet memories of their stay in the Islands and encourage their friends and relatives to visit the Islands, which is a pilgrimage place.  An impressive cultural programme presented by the school students enthralls the gathering.

Earlier, welcoming the chief guest and others, the Secretary (Education), Shri D. N. Singh informed that 25 teams of different states of the country participated in the 9 days championship. 35 matches were held and 435 players participated. The function concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by the Director of Education, Dr. Dev Das.

Port Blair, Jan. 2: It is informed to all concerned that the repair of the printing machine in the Govt. Press, Port Blair is now expected to be completed by 03.01.2013. Therefore, the printing as well as distribution of ‘The Daily Telegrams’ and the ‘Dweep Samachar’ will remain affected on 03.01.2013.

Port Blair, Jan. 2: Power supply will remain suspended in some of the areas on 05.01.2013 from 0800 hours to 1400 hours for shifting of 160 KVA distribution transformer at Ward No. 5 of Prothrapur Panchayat.

The areas to be affected by power interruption are part of Prothrapur, CARI area, Bird Line, Calicut, New Bimlitan, Macca Pahar, Kamraj Nagar, Beodnabad, Rangachang, Burmanallah and Chidiyatapu.

The Hon’ble Member of Parliament Shri. Bishnu Pada Ray has condoled the death of Shri. R. Karrupia, AIADMK Leader And State President, A&N Islands, R/o Bhatubasti, who passed away at 11 P.M. on 28.12.2012 in GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair and prayed to the Almighty to give strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace.

Port Blair, Dec. 31: All the Public, PRls, Private Contractors and Govt. organizations are cautioned not to dig/carry out any type of construction work along the road side of Hawa Mahal six pole structure to Rangat six pole structure with 'T' off towards Purana Thana to Govt. Senior Secondary School, Rangat as the 11KV supply in the underground cable laid by M/s Power Grid Corporation Ltd. has been charged by the Electricity Department, T&D, Rangat. Attempt to dig/cut the underground cable may lead to serious electrocution which may result in danger to life causing death also.

Hence all the Public, PRls, Private Contractors and Govt. organizations are cautioned and advised to take prior approval/permission before undertaking any type of work along the side of road of the mentioned area. Any willful and deliberate wrongful action by anyone causing danger to life may be at his/her own risk and the department will not take any responsibility after issuance of this press note.

Port Blair, Dec. 31: The 70th half yearly meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee (TOLIC) was held on 28th December, 2012 at 03.00 PM in the Library Hall of Central Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair wherein, Head of office and officers/Staff of Central Government establishment  attended.

Dr. S. Dam Roy, Director, CARI and Chairman, TOLIC, Port Blair expressed his happiness on the participation of the officials from different department and asked  everyone to put forth suggestion, views so as to improve upon the working of Hindi in day to day official activities. 

Shri Anand Raj of A & N Administrative gave a brief presentation on the incentives of Govt. of India for the use of Hindi in the offices and the training programmes provided by A & N Administration. Mrs. Sulochana, Secretary, TOLIC gave brief report on the activities of the TOLIC. 

Shri Amit Srivastava welcomed the members and the Secretary, TOLIC proposed the vote of thanks.
