Port Blair, Jan 14: The passengers have been informed that due to technical reasons, the sailing programme of MV Campbell Bay to Little Andaman on 15.01.2024 at 2100 Hrs from Port Blair and her return voyage on 16.01.2024 at 0800 Hrs from Little Andaman to Port Blair has been cancelled. Passengers those who are holding the tickets of MV Campbell Bay for the above sailings are advised to cancel their tickets and get full refund.

Port Blair, Jan 12: Indian Navy Ships Cheetah, Guldar and Kumbhir were decommissioned on 12 January 2024 after rendering four decades of glorious service to the nation. The decommissioning event was conducted at Port Blair in a traditional ceremony wherein the National Flag, the Naval Ensign and Decommissioning Pennants of the three ships were lowered for the last time, at sunset.

Cheetah, Guldar and Kumbhir were built at Gdynia Shipyard, Poland as Polnocny class Landing Ships and were commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1984, 1985 and 1986 respectively, by Shri S K Arora (Cheetah and Guldar) and Shri A K Das (Kumbhir) then Ambassadors of India to Poland. The Commanding officer of the three ships were Cdr V B Mishra, Lt Cdr SK Singh and Lt Cdr J Banerjee respectively. During her initial years, Cheetah was based at Kochi and Chennai for brief periods, and Kumbhir and Guldar were based at Visakhapatnam. The ships were subsequently re-based at Andaman and Nicobar Command, where they served till their decommissioning. These ships were in active Naval service for nearly 40 years and collectively traversed about 17 lakh nautical miles whilst being at sea for over 12,300 days. As the amphibian platforms of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, these ships have conducted over 1300 beaching operations for landing of army troops ashore.

Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency attended the live streaming address of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of National Youth Day being organized by Mera Yuva Bharat commemorating the 161st Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Youth Icon of India with active participation of youths of Port Blair and renowned sports persons of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Port Blair, Jan 12: The meetings of the State Secretariat and State Organising Committee of CPI (M) was held at Shaheed Bhavan, Anarkali, Port Blair on 11th January, 2024 in presence of Shri Prakash Karat and G. Ramakrishnan, Polit Bureau Members and Dr Sujan Chakraborthy, Central Committee Member of CPI (M).  The meeting reviewed the political situation prevailing in the islands.

Impressive March Past, Sportsmanship, and Spectacular Cultural Programmes hold the Audience Spellbound

Diglipur, Jan 12: There would have been no better opportunity than the Annual Athletic Meet, which was used by the talented rural School Sportspersons, grabbing it to their fullest potential. The students of the Government Model Senior Secondary School Sitanagar stunned the audience with their exemplary skills on the playfield, displaying their sports abilities at the Annual Athletic Meet held yesterday at Vivekananda Stadium. Starting with the impressive March Past in the morning, which was applauded by the Chief Guest, the Deputy Education Officer Shri S. Suresh Kumar, Guest of Honour Shri Satyajit Baidya, special Guests the Zilla Parishad Members Smti Arpona Roy and Shri Niranjan Haldar, the budding players looked very competitive in the different sporting events on the field.
