Port Blair, Sept. 30: Together with the rest of the country, the 154th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation will be celebrated on 2nd October 2023 in A&N Islands too. The main function will be held at Gandhi Park at 8.15 am, during which, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A & N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency will pay floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. This will be followed by prayers ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je’/Ramdhuns by Teachers/Students of Education Department. A two minutes’ silence will be observed on the occasion.

Port Blair, Oct. 1: The Member of Parliament, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to expedite the launch of fixed wing Aircraft Service between Diglipur and Port Blair.

In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, the Member of Parliament mentioned that although the groundwork for operating a fixed-wing aircraft service between Diglipur and Port Blair is nearing completion, this essential project has encountered delays primarily attributed to some paper works and a few minor hurdles.

Port Blair, Oct 1: A cleanliness drive was organised by Beodnabad Gram Panchayat today as a part of paying tribute to the Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The areas covered were the places under this Panchayat's jurisdiction such as Beodnabad village, Rangachang, Kodiyaghat etc.  The drive was conducted by Beodnabad Panchayat in association with Zilla Parishad, PHED, APWD, Protherapur and the Coast Guard.

Nancowry, Sept. 30: Continuing the determined efforts to bring Government services closer to the citizen's doorstep, through the initiative of the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie, Shri Anuj Kumar Bharti, a team successfully reached the remote Islands of Chowra and Teressa on Sept.27, 2023 and held ‘Zilla Prashasan Apke Dwar’ programme. This initiative aims to provide essential public services to even the most isolated communities of A &N Islands.

Port Blair, Sept. 30: The State Child Protection Society (SCPS) under the Directorate of Social Welfare organized an awareness program on the topic of ‘Child Rights and Responsibilities’ at Govt. Middle School, Kanyapuram recently. The objective of this program is to educate students about the basic rights and responsibilities that every child is entitled to. In this awareness program, about 40 students participated from different classes of primary sections.
