Port Blair, March 1: An information regarding presence of foreign poachers near Loha Tikrey, of Kalighat was received. Reacting swiftly, Insp. Anirudra Mondal and his team was deployed to conduct Anti-poaching operation. The team conducted an extensive search and ambushed near Loha Tikrey creek. The tireless team noticed poachers’ movement and immediately jumped into action. The team tried to stop the poachers, but they did not stop and tried to escape into dense mangroves. The courageous Police team chased them and apprehended 01 Myanmar poacher along with one engine dinghy which was kept hidden deep in pailoon creek.

Port Blair, March 1: Indian Coast Guard component at ANC, conducted an IMO Level-I course for various stakeholders responsible for Pollution Response Operation in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The course was conducted by Coast Guard Pollution Response Team (A & N) from 26 Feb to 01 Mar 24 at Port Blair. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), being the central coordinating agency for combating oil pollution in the maritime zones of India, conducts the course in line with the guidelines of OPRC convention 1992 to which India is a signatory. Accordingly, the IMO level courses are structured and conducted by the Indian Coast Guard to provide effective training to all stakeholders for coordinated response operations against any marine oil spills.

Port Blair, Mar. 1: India has remained free of wild polio cases since January 2011 and India’s unprecedented progress against polio has led to the certification of South East region including India by WHO in March 2014 as polio-free. Recently 25 years of Pulse Polio Immunization in India was celebrated. India remains at high risk of importation till the whole world is free of the wild polio virus. As per the recommendations of the India Expert Advisory Group (IEGA), one Single Polio National Immunization Day (NID) is to be conducted on 3rd March 2024, covering all the children in the age group of 0-5 years of age by administering two drops of bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at Booths followed by house to house visits by the staffs in the next two days to search and vaccinate the missed out /unimmunised children.
