Port Blair, Jan 17: The Burma Indian Co-operative Settlement Society, located at Shoal Bay -10, South Andaman, celebrated its 74th Anniversary of Settlement on January 16, 2024, with a grand event featuring a Thanksgiving prayer and cultural programs. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

During the event a brief history of the Burma settlers was shared, recalling the challenges faced by their forefathers and their resilient journey to establish a new village. On 23.12.1950, twelve families consisting of 76 members arranged to proceed to Andaman via Calcutta, as per the arrangement made by the Indian Government.

Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency today at Raj Niwas and discussed the various upcoming developmental projects viz. International Container Transshipment Terminal, Greenfield Airport, Deep Water Port at Diglipur, Sea-Plane operations being carried out by Andaman & Nicobar Administration in A&N Islands.

Postal Department Directed to Speed Up Delivery of New EPIC Cards

Port Blair, Jan. 17: To prevent impersonation/electoral fraud, Elector’s Photo Identity Card (EPIC) was introduced by the Election Commission of India in the year 1993 and with passage of time and in view of major advances of technology; the Commission has decided that the quality of cards, security features and other specifications should be further improved.

Campbell Bay, Jan 17: Today, on 17/01/2024, in celebration of Police Raising Week 2024, the dedicated police personnel, along with the staff of Fire & Emergency Services of Nicobar District, conducted a fire safety session at Govt. Primary School Rajeev Nagar, Campbell Bay. The session was aimed at raising awareness about preventive measures and methods for fire-fighting to ensure the safety of individuals during fire incidents. Fisherman watch group meetings were conducted at Carnicobar for getting information/assistance regarding any suspicious activities in and around sea. A motorcycle rally regarding Road Safety awareness was also conducted at Car-Nicobar.

Port Blair, Jan. 17: In a bid to empower the unemployed youth of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs, A&N Administration in collaboration with Block Development Officers and various Line Departments will be organizing Job Camps from tomorrow (Jan. 18).

With a commitment to fostering economic growth and addressing unemployment challenges, these Job Camps will be organized in various Gram Panchayats across the Islands, providing a platform for rural youths to explore diverse career avenues, gain valuable skills, and connect with potential employers.
