Port Blair, Feb 15: INS Jarawa celebrated its Diamond Jubilee (60th Anniversary) on 15 Feb 2024 at Jarawa High Ground. R Adm Sandeep S Sandhu, NM, Chief of Staff (COS), HQ ANC graced the occasion as the Chief Guest for the event.

INS Jarawa was commissioned by the then Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral B S Soman on 15 Feb 1964 as a base to oversee all Naval Operations on the A&N Islands. INS Jarawa, upon commissioning established itself as a premier Naval establishment at Port Blair. The base is named after the indigenous adivasi Jarawa tribe of the Andaman Islands.

Port Blair, Feb 15: Continuing its endeavour towards drug free society, the Police Stations under South Andaman District viz. PS Aberdeen and PS Pahargaon arrested two persons for possessing Methamphetamine and smoking illicit ganja.

On 10th Feb 2024, acting on credible information, the PS Pahargaon team swiftly reached Attampahar area. They discovered a car wherein someone was smoking a substance resembling ganja near a scrap yard. K. Mohit Swaroop, 27 years old, was found with a folded paper containing ganja. Subsequent testing confirmed the substance to be ganja. Mohit was promptly arrested and 06 grams of ganja were seized from him.

Port Blair, Feb 15: The Department of Social Welfare, A &N Administration has launched a new programme namely ‘Poshan Mitra’, a vital initiative aimed at combating severe malnutrition among children with the support of general public.

The Poshan Mitra program is an additional effort to address the pressing issue of malnutrition through community participation especially through volunteers, who can assist the severely malnourished children by donating nutritional items like dalia, date syrup, ghee, protein powder, green gram, ground nut worth Rs 1000/- per month to a severe malnutrition among children in the following manner.

Port Blair, Feb 15: In support of the nation-wide industrial strike and Gramin Bandh by workers and farmers and also to demand regularization of services of Daily Rated Mazdoors working under the Administration, the CITU will organise mass processions and public meetings across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 16th February, 2024.

At Port Blair, the mass procession will begin from the Tiranga Park and after making a round of the important points of the town will conclude at Tiranga Park which will be followed by a public meeting.  The procession will begin exactly at 4 p.m from Tiranga Park.
