Port Blair, May 14: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration to fill up the 80 vacant posts of Seaman in Directorate of Shipping Services.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that it has come to his notice that approximately 80 positions for seamen are currently vacant within the Directorate of Shipping Services, A&N Administration.

Port Blair, May 14: The biodiversity in the tropical islands like Andaman represents humongous array of unique plants and animals that are found exclusively in the islands. This special characteristics of islands flora and fauna across the world is often threatened by introduction of non-native species. Many evidences suggest that the extinction of species due to invasion of non-native species are much faster in the islands than the larger mainland. This is because the island species are often evolved with less predators and less completion for resources; therefore, the island species cannot compete well with the non-native species.

Light House will give significant Geo-Strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific region.

Port Blair, May 14: A 20-year-old ITI student was brought to GBPH with fracture of left thigh bone and multiple breaks of lower leg bones on the same side. He had met with a road traffic accident at Lamba Line on 16th March, 2024. As the patient was brought to the hospital, he was bleeding profusely since all the long bones of his left leg were badly fractured. After the patient’s blood loss was restored, his thigh bone was operated upon by the Orthopedics team on 17th March. The definitive surgery for the fracture of bones of lower leg (below knee) was purposively delayed since a large part of skin was lost, exposing the bone. However, regular dressing was being done to prevent infection of the injury site.

Port Blair, May 14: In a significant development, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair facilitated Shri Chintaharan Biswas, a progressive mango farmer having more than 100 mango trees from Shaheed Dweep, to register his farmer variety with the name as “Chinta Mango” in the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority (PPVFRA), New Delhi. This is the first mango variety from this island to be registered in the PPVFRA and will be known as Chinta Mango. The certificate was handed over to Shri Chintaharan Biswas by Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Hon’ble Secretary, DARE & DG, ICAR during his recent visit to ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
