Port Blair, March 7: After a long gap in the International arena, Islands’ Cyclist Miss Debora has bagged the first Bronze Medal for India in the 33rd Senior and 20th Junior Asian Cycling Championship held at Indira Gandhi Cycling Velodrome, New Delhi in the event 500 Mtrs. time trial.

The event 500 Mtrs. Time Trial was held in the afternoon of today 7th March, 2013 in Indira Gandhi Cycling Velodrome in which the Islands’ Star Cyclist clinched first Bronze Medal for India, narrowly missed Silver medal by 0.027 fraction of a Second.

Deborah hails from Kakana village of Car Nicobar and is a student of Girls Sr. Sec. School under SAI, SAG scheme.

The Secretary (Sports), Shri. Rakesh Bali, Director Education Dr. R. Dev Das, Shri. Lucas Robert, Director (Sports) and Shri S. Sen Gupta SAI Cycling Coach has congratulated Deborah for bringing laurels for the Country and blessed for the upcoming events.

Shri. A Mohd. Iqbal President A & N Cycling Association will be proceeding to New Delhi to boost the morale of the Island Cyclists Deborah and Martha in the upcoming events and to witness the Asian Championship.

Meanwhile Shri. V. Ranjith Kumar, General Secretary of A & N Cycling Association had personally visited IG Stadium New Delhi during the final stage of coaching camp and congratulated Deborah and Martha on being selected for the Indian team, golden opportunity to shine in the International arena.

Port Blair, March 7: The 8th Siddha, Yoga & Varma Therapy Camp was held on March 3, 2013 at Vivekananda Kendra, Lambaline, Port Blair from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm with the assistance of experts of Siddha, Varma Therapy who had arrived from mainland.

The camp was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri. Vijaya Kumar, Principal, VKV School, wherein Shri. Mary Joseph, D.E.O., Wiberligunj, Shri. H.L. Agarwal were present as Guests of Honour. The Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour in their address on the occasion tried to create awareness among the general public by sharing their experience and thoughts about Siddha, Varma & Yoga. They advised the participants to have a strong will power for regular practice of Yoga and to modify their lifestyle for a healthy living.

Siddha & Varma Specialist Dr. K.P. Arjunan and Dr. Arul Anandha Kumar diagnosed the 108 patients and distributed free medicines for 30 days. The follow up medicines will available at Vasumathy Yoga Clinic. The next visit of the experts is scheduled to be on 11th May 2013.

The Camp was organised by Sri Annai Aravind Health Care and Social Welfare Trust (SAAHSWT) in collaboration with Islanders Yoga Trust (IYT), Tamilnadu Paramparai, Siddha Vaithya Maha Sangam, Shri Puttru Maharishi Social & Medical Service Centre, Vellore. 

 

Port Blair, March 7: Shri. D. N. Singh, Secretary (RD/ Panch)/Education visited Kadamtala, Rangat and Long Island from 2nd to 4th March, 2013. During the visit he interacted with the PRI Members and officials of the RD/Panch and the Education department. He has urged the PRI members and officials to put the fund to optimal use for developmental works and submit proposal for obtaining funds at the earliest as the financial year is on the verge of closure.

The Secretary also advised PRI representatives to diversify their activities in all those areas where devolution has been done. At Kadamtala he inspected the Govt. Sr. Secondary School when board exams were being held.

The Secretary also visited the Primary Health Centre at Long Island and inspected the works of PRI at Sigmandera on water supply. At Baratang he inspected the road work from Police Out Post to Baludera. On his return journey the Govt. Schools at Mile Tilak, Ferrargunj, Tusnabad & Caddlegunj were also inspected.

Port Blair, March 7: The Department of Art and Culture, A&N Administration in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre and South Zone Culture Centre, GoI, is organizing a UT Level Folk Dance and Folk Song Competition on 8th March 2013 at 5.30 p.m at Amphitheatre, Anarkali. 

Nirmala Senior Secondary School, Sur-Saptak-A sangeet Academy, Naveen Cultural Group, Sarmistha Music Centre Group, Baaulmon Group, Mukta Dhara, Kailashpathy Classical Dance Academy and Aditya Natya Academy will take part in the competition.

 

 

 Port Blair, March 5: The Department of Social Welfare is organizing a sports meet for women on 6th March, 2013 in the Netaji Stadium, Port Blair and a Rangoli and Flower show arrangement in the Buniyadabad Community Hall, Port Blair on 7th March, 2013 as part of the International Women's Day on 8th March, 2013.

All interested women in the age group 18 years and above who are desirous to participate in the programmes are requested to enroll their names in the Netaji Stadium on 6th March, 2013 at 08.30 am and in the Buniyadabad Community Hall on 7th March, 2013 at 9.30 am.

 

Port Blair, March. 7: The State Mahila Congress will be observing Mahila Suraksha Diwas tomorrow at 9.30 AM in the premises of Gandhi Bhavan, as a part of International Women's day celebration. The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma will grace the occassion as Chief Guest.

Smti Shanta Lakshman Singh, President, Mahila Congress has requested all the womenfolk of Port Blair city and adjacent areas to participate in this programme and submit their views and demands on Mahila Suraksha.

 

Port Blair, March 4: TheAnnual General meeting of Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry will be held on Sunday the 24th March 2013 at 11.00 am in the auditorium of DR. B.R. Ambedkar institute of technology, Pahargoan.

Registration of members will start from 10.30 am. The Agenda will include election of new managing committee beside adoption/ passing of annual report, audited report & budget and other issues if any. Members have been requested to attend the meeting in time.
