Port Blair, Feb. 21: The State Organiser DMK, Shri A.R. Marudhavanan has requested the Lt. Governor to relive Tehsildar, Port Blair from his additional duties, which has been causing endless trouble to the residents of the Tehsil.

In his letter to the LG, Marudhavanan said that for every needs right from OBC, Local certificate, Islander card, Senior citizen certificate, Old age pension to land related issues, the office of the Tehsildar is of utmost importance. Every working day one could find hundreds of people flocking to the Tehsildar’s office for one job or the other.

It has been noticed that for the last one month people of Port Blair Tehsil are made to wait for hours to have a glimpse of the Tehsildar. On Enquiry it was found out that the Tehsildar, Port Blair has been given additional duties of Tehsildar (Special duty), Tehsildar (Elections), Tehsildar (Land Records), Tehsildar (Ferrargunj Tehsil) and Tehsildar (Disaster Management).

It’s well known that the Tehsildar (Port Blair) is an important Post as Port Blair Tahsil involves large sections of the people including Neil and Havelock Islands, said Marudhavanan. Even if a person is given the sole duty of Tehsildar (Port Blair) one has to get involved full time to do justice to the job. Under such a condition the Tehsildar (Port Blair) being given five additional duties is like making a mockery of the needs of the people of Port Blair Tehsil, said the State Organiser.

Marudhavanan has therefore requested the LG to relieve Tehsildar, Port Blair of all his additional duties to the satisfaction of all the residents living within the jurisdiction of Port Blair Tehsil.
