Port Blair, Sept. 15: RED RUN, a State Level Marathon of 5 Kms was conducted by Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) from Netaji Subash Chandra Boss Stadium to Mazaar Pahad and back on 15th September 2023 (Friday). The marathon was organized for the awareness on HIV/AIDS among the youth.  Participants were from Colleges and Youth Clubs.

Ms. Deborah Herold, Indian cyclist from A & N Islands who represented India and won many medals in various National and International Level Competition was the Chief Guest. She motivated the participants and flagged off the Marathon.

Port Blair, Sept. 15: PS Ograbraj police successfully solved a burglary case and arrested the accused with complete recovery of the stolen gold ornaments. On 21/06/2023, a burglary was reported and a case was registered at PS Ograbraj regarding theft of gold ornaments weighing 35.5 grams Approx. from a house at Badmash Pahad, Chouldari.

The case was entrusted to HC/2336 Bijoy Sarkar, PS Ograbraj. After collecting evidences, the suspect was zeroed but was found to be absconding. During the investigation all the efforts were made to trace out the accused person by forming different teams. As a result of the sustained investigation involving both physical and technical analysis, the Police team was able to apprehend Sanjay Kumar Das S/o Shri Dhiren Das (38) yrs R/o Little Andaman, Hutbay, Rabindra Nagar who was in hiding at Subash Gram, Diglipur.

Port Blair, Sept. 15: GST Jagrukta- a GST awareness programme was held in the Seminar Gallery and Conference Hall of Tagore Government College of Education, Port Blair today. The seminar was inaugurated by Smt. Veditha Reddy, IAS, Commissioner, UTGST Department, A&N Islands. She emphasized on creating a general awareness on GST relating to different trades amongst the business community. Discussions were held on various issues of GST compliance and the legal provisions of the offences and penalties enacted under GST Act, 2017. The Tax Officers and Assistant Commissioners presented talks on objectives and challenges for GST implementation in A&N Islands. A special focus was given on penal and legal provision for violations of GST Law viz. fake invoices, undervaluation of sales, import of goods without valid documents, non-payment of tax in a timely manner, conducting business without taking proper GST registration.
