Port Blair, June 3: In an Order issued today, the District Magistrate, South Andaman has declared the containment operations in the containment area comprising Bambooflat, Hopetown, Shorepoint, Stewartgunj, Nayapuram, Kanyapuram, Wimberlygunj (part), Kadakachang & Govindpuram as over.
The above areas was constituted as a Containment Area in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The last positive case for COVID-19 was detected on 25th April 2020 in the aforementioned containment area following which, containment operations were directed to be scaled down.
As per the Updated Containment Plan for Large Outbreaks Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the containment operations shall be deemed to be over 28 days from the discharge of last confirmed case (following negative tests as per discharge policy) from the designated health faculty i.e. when the follow up of hospital contacts will be complete.
The health authorities have confirmed that the conditions for removing containment area restrictions are fulfilled in the above case. Medical screening of all the residents of the area has already been done and samples of symptomatic persons were collected which were reported negative. The last patient from the containment area had tested negative on 7th May 2020.
