Pregnant Lady Due for Caesarean Section Made to Wait for Corona Report
Port Blair, Aug 7: While the islander have accepted that the situation of COVID-19 pandemic in the islands is out of control and the only thing which can be done is to take precautionary measures, there are cases wherein Corona Tests are required before a patient is treated for other ailments.
In one such case, a pregnant lady was brought to the GB Pant Hospital and after examination, it was suggested by the Gynaecologist that the lady goes in for a Caesarean Section at the earliest. The husband and the lady had agreed to the suggestion but they were instructed to go in for a Corona test.
On 31st July 2020, samples were collected for Corona test but the result of the test was never received by the couple. On 5th August 2020, the sample was collected again but the results were never received. While the gynaecologists suggest that the Caesarean needs to be done in a day or two, the issue here is that without a report of Corona test from the RMRC, ICMR, it cannot be possible. The post was then floated in the social media by the victim, requesting for help.
This is one emergency case such case where regular patients are made to wait for days to get the Corona test report from the concerned agency, the reason best known to the authorities.
It is expected that the A&N Administration while formulating strategies to combat the pandemic should also ensure that emergency cases like these which require urgent test reports are given priority.
