Authorities Shift Responsibilities When it Comes to Rectifying Mistakes

Port Blair, Aug 24: The re-shuffle of officers in the A&N Administration has come as a great relief to the general public of A&N Islands. It has also come as a re-assurance that the Administration is trying to rectify the mistakes done in the part and is willing to serve the society better.

While the re-shuffling comes as an assurance, things seem not to be getting solved in the only referral hospital of A&N Islands, the GB Pant. Sources confirm that the corona positive patients are mixed up with the regular patients who are getting treated for other ailments.

The situation is of the Male Ward wherein around 10 patients among the full capacity of the wards were tested positive to the virus. When the youth volunteers approached the concerned Doctor, they were told to contact the Medical Superintendent. And when they did, they were told that the instruction to segregate and shift the positive patients is the decision of the Director of Health Services. The Director on the other hand says that instructions have already been given to shift.

It is also very clear that the number of Active cases in the Administration’s official bulletin are dropping drastically as the result of limited testing being done. The Andaman Administration has also issued a circular to all its employees undergoing home quarantine or stuck-up in containment zones to get an approval from the competent authorities. This has also sent a shiver among the employees, who now fear the spread of infection in government offices.

The decisions taken by the A&N Administration can be understandable, since many of the government employees including doctors and health workers now remain under quarantine. This would lead to nothing but collapse of the entire Administration, let alone the GB Pant Hospital. While the Administration is taking steps to rectify the past mistakes, can the general public expect basic minimum and timely decision to segregate positive and negative patients in the GB Pant Hospital?
