DCSA Ensuring Effective Management of COVID-19 Facilities

Port Blair, Aug 26: The A&N Administration is making attempts to rectify the wrong at the lone referral hospital of A&N Islands, the GB Pant. Based on a request made to the Chief Secretary by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman (DCSA), Shri Suneel Anchipaka, IAS to manage Covid facilities at GB Pant in an efficient manner, the Andaman & Nicobar Administration has appointed a Nodal Officer to look after the Covid management in GB Pant Hospital.

According to an Order No. 41 dated 25th Aug 2020, issued by the Secretary (Health), Shri Yash Choudhary, Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman has been designated as the Nodal Officer to oversee the functioning of Covid management.

In a communication to the press, the DCSA informed that the DC Office is now concentrating on 102 and its streamlining. A roaster system of all Doctors, Nurses and other staff is being maintained. Reserve staff has been marked incase anyone do not turn up.

Anchipaka further said that the District Administration is also ensuring regular food system with feedback, while a backup of 4-5 Ambulances has been earmarked exclusively for COVID patients. The District Administration is also ensuring regular drinking water, sanitation and cleaning of toilets in the Hospital.

“We are streamlining everything. If there are any problems, the DC Control Room (1070) is working 24x7”, said Anchipaka.

Meanwhile the Order No 41 by the Secretary (Health) also states that other designated officials who have been assigned various functions vide Order No. 39, dated 19th Aug 2020 are to submit daily reports through the office of the MS GB Pant Hospital, latest by 5.00 pm every day.

The officials who have been assigned responsibilities are:

Dr. Bairagi, Deputy MS, GB Pant Hospital who is to look after the COVID-19 patient diet in GB Pant Hospital.

Dr. Archana Deshpande (HOD Pathology) in coordination with the Medical Teal treating Covid confirmed cases has been entrusted with the responsibility of sampling, quality control, plasma extraction & transfusion only as per prescribed guidelines.

Dr. Akhilesh Kumar Singh (AP), assisted by Dr. Jhanavi (HOD Community Medicine) has been assigned the task of assessment & detailed documentation of Covid mortality.

Dr. MK Saha, MS GB Pant Hospital has been assigned to prepare JR and intern roaster for covid duties at various centres in consultation with DHS without affecting regular functioning of the clinical departments.

Dr. Ratna Kumari (HOD Paediatrics), Dr. Deba Dutta (Department of Microbioligy), Dr. Ashwini Kumar Malle (Department of Forensic Medicine) has been allocated the task of enforcement of protocols for prevention and control of infection in GB Pant Hospital, BMW management, proper sanitisation of COVID wards.

The Director of Health Services and the Director (ANIIMS) are to ensure all material and logistic support to the above personnel in carrying out their prescribed responsibilities.
