Member of Parliament Takes Up Genuine Problems Faced by Students with Appropriate Authorities

Port Blair, Sept 8: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma had met Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education), A&N Administration Dr. V. Candavelou, IAS on 07.09.2020 and appraised him about the problems of college students of JNRM and ANCOL residing at different Islands of North & Middle Andaman, Swaraj Dweep, Saheed Dweep, Little Andaman, Nicobar district etc. for attending their Under Graduation and Post Graduations final year examinations scheduled to be held from 14th September, 2020 onwards at Port Blair.

He informed that altogether 1062 students (approximately) from different areas/Islands shall be attending final year examinations from 14th September 2020 onwards but unless proper facilities such as transportation, hostel accommodations, mess facilities etc. are provided, these students will face difficulties in attending examinations at Port Blair at this crisis time of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. After discussion, the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education) has assured to look into the matter to resolve the problems highlighted by MP as stated above.

Subsequent to the discussions held, the Member of Parliament has furnished the tentative list of number of students who shall be arriving Port Blair from different areas/ Islands to the Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Education) and also informed the same to the Deputy Commissioners of South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman and Nicobar Districts for making arrangements for their transportation by road/sea, boarding and lodging at hostels at Port Blair. The details are as follows.

By Road:

1.Diglipur - 150 Nos.

2.Mayabunder- 242 Nos.

  1. Billiground- 60 Nos.
  2. Rangat- 150 Nos.
  3. Kadamtala- 25 Nos.
  4. Baratang- 40 Nos.

Total: 667 Nos.

By Sea:

1.Swaraj Dweep- 50 Nos.

2.Saheed Dweep- 50 Nos.

3.Little Andaman - 80 Nos.

4.Car Nicobar - 70 Nos.

  1. Katchal - 40 Nos.
  2. Kamorta -25 Nos.
  3. Campbell Bay - 80 Nos.

Total: 395 Nos.

The Member of Parliament also met the Secretary (Shipping), A&N Administration on the same day (7th September, 2020) and requested to him make arrangements of boat services from different Islands for convenient transportation of students for attending their final year examinations at Port Blair and in response to that, the Secretary (Shipping) also assured to looked into matter. 

In addition to above, the MP along with the delegation of NSUI also met with Director of Transport on 07.09.2020 where he appraised the transportation problems for the students and requested him to provide STS bus services especially for to and fro commutation of the students from North & Middle Andaman to Port Blair.  The Director assured to do the needful.
