Port Blair, Oct. 7: The Parliamentarian’s Group for Children (PGC) (UNICEF India) has announced Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands as the winner of PGC Awards 2020. The award is an attempt by the PGC to recognise Kuldeep Rai Sharma’s exceptional work to protect the rights of children in the parliament.

The PGC hosted the award ceremony today through Zoom to present the Parliamentarian’s Award for Children which was followed by an interaction between the parliamentarians and child rights experts.

Kuldeep Rai Sharma in a short time as the Member of Parliament had initiated 18 debates and 15 questions on matters of child labour, malnutrition, mid-day meal schemes, safety of children and child immunization in the Parliament during 2019-2020.

In a communication with Andaman Chronicle, the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma said, “I thank UNICEF India for conferring the prestigious award. I dedicate this award to the children of Andaman & Nicobar Islands who are the future of this country and I will strive towards working for their welfare and development by raising their issues as a Member of Parliament”.

The Parliamentarian’s Group for Children (PGC) was constituted in August 2013 to constructively leverage the influence of Parliamentarians to bring the experiences, issues and concerns of children into policies and law. The PGC aims to recognize the exceptional work that the MPs do in the Parliament, to keep our collective promise towards uplholding child rights, through the PGC Awards for MPs.
